ADOPT-a-FAMILY
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38
We invite you to share the joy of Christmas through volunteering or giving of gifts to families in need. Participate by sponsoring (adopting) a family, buying a registry gift, or offering your gift of talents and service to assist with Good Samaritan Urban Ministries' Blessing Bin event.
Sign up to sponsor a family in need, either as an individual family or as a group to adopt one or more families. We provide names, ages, a "wish" list for each member of the family and gift wrapping guidelines; you buy the gifts which they receive at our Blessing Bin, on December 10th. (We encourage you to attend the event to meet your family.)
Suggested guidelines for sponsoring a family:
- Limit gift purchases to three per family member (maximum of $75 per person) Please help us maintain equity among those receiving gifts.
- Purchase a "family" gift in addition to individual gifts; suggested items:
- Gift cards (grocery and retail stores)
- Restaurant gift certificates
- Christmas decorations
- Gas cards
- Phone cards
- Movie passes
- Feel free to build a relationship with your "adopted" family by contacting them prior to Blessing Bin by clarifying their gift choices and sharing with them the love of Jesus.

Are you part of a group that...
...has a flair for decorating?
We need you for general Christmas decorating and to create an attractive refreshment table.
...has musical talents? Do you love to act or tell stories?
We are looking for people to prepare short (approx. 10 minutes) Christmas skits, acts and musical treats. We also need strolling carolers and a Christian praise band. The more you can interact with the crowd the better!
...enjoys making Christmas crafts or food?
Consider having a booth for families to come and try their hand at making your product. (Must be simple and quick)
...that has kid's art and game booths such as spin art, fishing booth, sand art or ring toss? Each group would be in charge of their activity and be responsible for all supplies.

GIFT REGISTRY FOR HOUSEHOLD NEEDS
Good Samaritan Urban Ministries furnishes 16 apartments for families participating in our transitional housing program. Upon completion of the program, the ministry blesses participants with the contents of their apartment so they are equipped to set up their own home.
This year for those unable to sponsor an entire family, we again offer the option of purchasing much needed household items. To facilitate your "gift buying," we have registered at Target and Wal-Mart stores.
You can access the lists at the store, or online at www.target.com and www.walmart.com. We are listed at Target with Club Wedd under the "Bride" option (first name: Good, and last name: Samaritan). At Wal-Mart, you will find the listing registered under the same first and last name as a "wish list". The event date for both stores is December 10.
As part of our ministry to the homeless, 16 families live in our Family Ministry Housing at our 9th Street Campus and participate in a life-changing faith-based program. We rely on donated items to furnish their apartments and supply every-day needs. See the front of this page for Target and Wal-Mart stores' registry details.
A sampling of needed items follows:
- Pot 'n pan sets
- Vacuum cleaners ***high need
- Baking dishes / mixing bowls
- Cooking / eating utensils
- Knife sets
- Kitchen & bathroom trashcans
- Shower curtains
NOTE: Gift cards/certificates (retail, grocery & restaurant) are also greatly appreciated!
