I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry. Many, o Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done. The things you planned
for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and
tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Psa.
40:1, 5
After many months of waiting-and to be perfectly honest,
it has not always been with patience!-the staff and
Board of Directors welcomes the arrival in February
of a new Executive Director to guide the ministry as
we seek to follow God's will and his plans for the future.
A native of Des Moines, Denise Martin-Foley held a
career in the banking industry for more than 20 years
in various positions, employed by Bankers Trust Company
for the past seven years. Denise located to Houston,
Tex. for college and the start of her professional career,
returning to Des Moines in 1998.
Denise was licensed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ
in June 1999. She serves as an Associate Minister at
the Union Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev.
Henry I. Thomas. Her ministry there has focused on women-especially
single mothers-as she has herself been raising three
beautiful children (Paris, Allia, and A.J.) as a single
parent since her return from Texas.
Her position at Bankers Trust required Denise to oversee
Community Reinvestment through which products and services
are offered to benefit low- to moderate-income individuals,
families, and neighborhoods. Work responsibilities with
various non-profit organizations in the community allowed
Denise to reach out to individuals seeking a "hand
up in life."
Denise served on Good Samaritan Urban Ministries' Board
of Directors for more than two years. Over the last
year, God had begun putting into her spirit to go into
fulltime ministry. She was actively making plans to
move back to Houston to start a work similar to Good
Samaritan's when the Board of Directors began to earnestly
search for an Executive Director.
The staff and Board of Directors are excited about
Denise's passion for families in need and look in anticipation
to co-labor with her as she seeks the Lord to vision
cast for the ministry in our mission to serve families
and youth.
